Mt Ommaney Library Our Digital Images conference

Report
Our Digital Community Our Digital Images Conference/Festival hosted by Mt Ommaney Library Saturday July 26 2008.

The Our Digital Community Our Digital Images Conference engaged Brisbane City Council Mt Ommaney Library’s first class community library facilities with a community of its patrons who are fascinated by the new developments in the use of the world wide web.
The event was able to relate and cross-fertilise the knowledge of each of the participants with experts in a
public sharing of knowledge in a speak easy environment.

The community of patrons included BCC Library Services staff, educators, public and university intellectuals, i.t. and internet experts, librarians from other library and information technology systems and regular domestic users of the library; including stay at home mums, and people from community groups who use the library as a venue and living and learning place.
The conference was also able to accommodate young children attached to this patron base.
The community engaged were savvy to the potentials of the new web, the next revolution in our use of the internet.
This conference attracted and was targeted towards internet experts who are creative users of digital technologies and the web and also regular patrons of Mt Ommaney Library who have come to see the Mt Ommaney Library as a venue where they can find intellectual and community engagement.

One of the achievements of this conference was that it was able to cross fertilise a diversity of academics from different institutions and sectors. Another achievement was it was able to engage these academics and the other experts with the public capital that is the public library and its community of web savvy patrons.
The event was exciting because it was at a place which is naturally receptive to the expression of ideas. The presentations were enjoyable, clever and engaging. The refreshments were attractive and interesting. Another plus for the conference was that it engaged and engrossed each diverse participant.
This public sharing of knowledge was easily activated by libraries being a natural venue for this activity and historically committed to this phenomenon of the free and public sharing of knowledge. Early last century in Queensland appointees to the University toured the state to give public lectures in Queensland Libraries.
A diversity of Brisbane library patrons found the event an easy place to discuss and learn about the new digital imagery and new ways of internet use in the free air of this public library event.
Attendance at the event included regular Mt Ommaney Library patrons, Brisbane City Council Library staff from a number of BCC Libraries, from I Divison and from other areas of BCC Family and Community Services, Librarians from other South-East Queensland libraries and experts in the field of digital imagery The event educated all participants in the new revolution in internet praxis which is upon us.
By being in a public, community Library, a natural and neutral venue for people to congregate there was an easiness in the free sharing of knowledge by the participants.
The participants were free to take off their skins as experts in their own fields or being dons of their own disciplines and freely discuss, learn from and enthuse to other participants about their areas of expertise and practice in this booming new area of “ creative information” and “web” literature.
All parties were bent on discovering and discussing the new creative aspects of the world wide web. The conference was bent on exploring the next revolution in popular internet use.

Digital Fun at Mt Ommaney Library
Ok, I know I promised to get this up and on my blog over the weekend, but it's been a little busy and I'm in serious holiday mode, two weeks annual leave will do that to you. Not to mention that I was quite busy on Tuesday being tattooed, but that's a subject for another blog, which I may or may not also pop up tonight.Anyhoo, on Saturday, I had the priviledge of being part of the Mt Ommaney Library Digital Media event organised by Geoff Shera. And a smashing job Geoff did of organising it too. Geoff asked me to give a presentation on Web2.0 technology, and also to be on hand for the whole event. It's been a long time since I enjoyed a day's work as much as I did on Saturday. Most of the attendees and other presenters asked for a centralised location for all of the links and info presented at the event, and I figured here was the easiest place to do that. So, without further ado, here are all of the links from the other presenters. I will share mine in a separate blog, as I have a BIG document of them.Peter Coxsuperuse.org - where recycling meets designhttp://www.superuse.org/cheap movie production – cellphone clips nokia are the biggest camera maker in the world….http://downanddirtydv.blogspot.com/search/label/cell%20phone%20filmmakinghttp://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/24/technology/24cell.html?ex=1366776000&en=e3e9ef963df6e44b&ei=5124&partner=permalink&exprod=permalink‘Cellph Portraits’ Gallerydon’t bring a camera bring a phonehttp://www.sfgate.com/cgibin/object/article?f=/g/a/2004/05/28/rxgallery.DTL&o=4cctv filmmakingFACELESS by MANU LUKSH (cctv footage reclaimed by law)now, you don’t even need a camera to make a moviehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLzJCeGYgbgIn a society under the reformed 'Real-Time' Calendar, without historynor future, everybody is faceless. Learning a new information literacy

Never having been the sharpest tool in the shed and a slow learner who is often confounded by how to do things, learning a new information literacy is a challenge.
